Product
Our customers rely on our products to deliver protection in high-risk, potentially life-threatening situations. As a company, we deeply value the trust they place in us, and this responsibility guides every aspect of how we design, build, support, service and maintain our products.
Our process pillar is focused on two areas
Product Development
Staying at the forefront of mission-critical protective technology that protects the lives of those who protect us
Quality
Exceeding customers’ and end user’s needs. We protect lives, that means delivering to the highest quality every day
Product Development
Innovation underpins the Group’s long-term success, enabling us to develop advanced products that drive growth and consistently meet the rigorous standards our customers expect. We maintain strong customer relationships and integrate their feedback throughout product development to anticipate future needs.
Innovation
Advancing respiratory and ocular protection
Building on the success of the MITR-M1 half mask, Avon Protection introduced the MITR-PG1 powered goggle, delivering scalable respiratory and ocular protection for tactical users. Designed for military, special forces, and law enforcement, the MITR-PG1 integrates with the MITR-M1 to provide full-face protection against particulate hazards and riot control agents. Featuring an integrated filter and blower system for clear vision, compatibility with helmets and night vision gear, and over eight hours of operation, it sets a new standard in low-burden protection. Complemented by the MITR-RF riot agent filter, this innovation enhances safety in fast-evolving tactical environments.
Raising the bar on rifle-rated protection
RIFLETECH™ is a breakthrough helmet designed to stop powerful rifle rounds while remaining lightweight and comfortable for all-day wear, even with added gear like night vision or communications. Proven in live-fire tests, it delivers uncompromising protection and represents a major advancement in safety for those facing high-risk situations.
Our role in the fight against TBI
Team Wendy participates in the PANTHER Program - dedicated to the analysis of rotational impacts on helmet wearers. As part of the PANTHER Program, a research team consisting of engineers from Team Wendy and university partners from University of Wisconsin-Madison and Brown University had a paper published by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers about new wearable technology used to gather real-time data of people who wear helmets. Team Wendy hope that their work through this program will lead to better materials which will in turn lead to more protective helmets.
Future programmes
Avon Protection has secured co-funded programmes with the US DoW and UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (DSTL).
New Product Introduction (NPI)
- Our NPI process ensures we are cross-functional from the earliest stages. This supports the alignment of the full organisation to deliver products that achieve excellence in customer satisfaction, environmental and social responsibilities, and manufacturing efficiency.
- We maintain strong customer relationships and actively gather feedback throughout product development to ensure future requirements are incorporated into design. Using multiple channels such as voice of customer sessions, user testing, and feedback forums, we engage end users in real-world scenarios like field operations and training exercises. Insights from these interactions guide our engineering teams to create products that meet user needs and enhance their safety and wellbeing.
Quality
Product safety and quality are central to everything we do. We employ a robust set of tools to prevent, detect and manage quality issues, including internal and supplier audits, root cause analysis and our ISO 9001:2015-certified Quality Management System, implemented across all four manufacturing sites.
Embedding quality into our own operations
Our internal processes are built to ensure that every product we design, and manufacture performs reliably and consistently.
Our vision is to achieve a just-in-time, one-piece flow system with quality built in at every stage. In 2025, we enhanced visual management across our facilities and implemented new on-line quality checks guided by Ji Kotei Kanketsu (JKK) principles. By introducing clear quality criteria, self-inspection and successive inspection, defects are identified and resolved immediately rather than relying on inspection at the end of the line. This process, once embedded into every line, will reduce defects, physical waste and employee time and improve our products to the customer.
Supply chain quality expectations
We require our suppliers to ensure their products meet the necessary quality standards and expect them to have a Quality Management System (QMS) in place or plans to establish a certified quality assurance process. This helps identify defects, implement corrective actions, and ensure the final product or service not only meets but exceeds contract expectations.
Testing and product safety standards
Many of our products meet stringent customer and industry safety standards. They undergo rigorous independent testing and certification, including NIOSH, NFPA, and CE. This process gives users confidence in the quality and safety of our equipment.
Industry standards
We are a member of JOSCAR, an accreditation system which ensures companies only use products and solutions of the highest quality and comply with best practices. This membership is a collaborative tool used by the aerospace, defence and security industry to act as a single repository for pre-qualification and compliance information. Using JOSCAR can determine if a supplier is ‘fit for business.
